Our journey online began in 2005 with the start of a home based business. My wife, Kim Hummert, enjoys graphic arts and had always created custom address labels and thank you cards for our two children. When she started to make more personalized stationery products for her friends than our own family, we began to consider offering these unique creations for sale online.
Having an appreciation for technology and particularly the efficiency it brings to a business, I began researching a host of different electronic shopping software products that would be best suited for our needs. This took some time. Working with the wonderful programmers at Mid America and Coffee Walk, a proprietary preview tool was designed and developed and implemented wthin LovelyLabels.com so that the customer's shopping experience would be enhanced. This tool led to the elimination of a printer's "proof" and has resulted in zero call backs or mistakes, even to this date.
Our journey continued with the task of marketing this website of digital artwork and stationery products amidst a sea of competitors, all doing something similar. Learning as much as possible on the topic of SEO/M (Search Engine Optimization - Marketing), I found myself returning back to the site to modify its design such that it balanced the needs of our customers and our needs with respect to the way popular search engines viewed the website so that its positioning and ranking within the organic SERPS (search engine results pages) was optimized. This is a journey unto itself and continues!
Once a steady flow of visitors began viewing the site and business improved, a natural tendancy on my part developed to improve the customers' experience while shopping our online stationery store. Enter eCRM. Combined with the analysis provided by web analytics, a careful study ensued with respect to the number of unique visitors per day, the length of their stay, the number of pages viewed, where they entered and where they exited, the number of shopping carts abandoned within our funnel, as well as the development of key metrics such as sales per visit, all began to become a part of regular study and analysis. Ultimately, the design and implementation of A / B / A Testing and its affect on visitor conversion has led to site optimization and solid sales. We are in business for purposes of serving our customers and the depth and breadth of customer relationship management tools (CRM) are unique unto themselves, deserved of separate discussion.
Realizing that the lessons learned could be shared with others, Hummert Commerce was developed for purposes of offering our clients assistance with selling online, whether they have been selling on the internet for some time, or are just beginning. We can offer a solid, customer centric approach, combined with the knowledge and expertise of integrating these systems with existing ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) platforms so that the business wins by realizing all of operating efficiencies of online sales and the customer wins by having a dynamite experience while shopping the website!
